5 months: World studies at CICD

The first period is organised in 3 parts with the title of each part pointing out the direction for the studies:
International relations - 1.5 months
Globalisation – 1.5 months
Richer and The Poor – 2 months
This period is focused on learning a lot about the mechanisms that rule our world. Whatever your starting point, you can be sure to deepen your understanding in readiness for taking action.
The studies are at university level and will, after finishing the programme, lead to a single A certificate from One World University in Mozambique under the faculty Fighting With The Poor.

2,5 months: Getting it ready

Saving up for travel anywhere where a job can be found.
During this period you focus on earning money for your travel and do other travel preparations while also continuing the studies. It is nicest, of course, if the whole team can find jobs close to each other – but that is not always possible. The travel preparations include deciding the travel route, investigating about the different countries, getting visa in order, making detailed plans for which projects and people to visit and what investigations to make.

2,5 months: On the road

Travel and investigations on the way to the project.
Now you carry out your travel plans. Most teams have flown to a destination in Southern Africa and from there travelled over land with local means of transport. You meet people and see places that you have until now only dreamed of. An experience of a lifetime.

6 months: Service period

Your travel ends in the country, where you are going to spend the next 6 months together with your trio volunteering at a development project. You have already got used to the climate and have met so many people and visited so many projects, that you can get to work straight away. You had your job description before you left from CICD and have also been in contact with your Project Leader, so after maybe a few days at the National Headquarter of Humana People to People in the country, you move on to your project and get started.
Your studies continue in the service period, mainly through research and practice.

5 months: Bringing It to the Public

The focus during this period is twofold:

  • Bring IT to the Public – sharing your experiences and knowledge
  • Finalising your exam for the single A certificate.

This period is a very important part of the programme. It gives you time to reflect and conclude on your experiences and achievements and to share them widely. You have started preparing this during the first 6 months of your stay at CICD, so you already have the outline of a plan. Reach as many people as you can – it is important that lots of people are educated about the fight against poverty.
