Welcome to our Environmental Activist team! This team stays in England to develop our environmental project here, rather than going to a developing country.
The programme consists of theoretical learning with studies, workshops and investigations, and practical learning from the process of building up an inspiring Environmental Centre at Winestead Hall, as well as by working together with the wider community.
The programme starts is ongoing during spring and summer, until November.
The 3 months are divided in weekly slots. You can join the programme for 3 months or for shorter periods.
The programme is a “rolling” 3 months programme, where the headlines will be fixed, but the practical content will progress with the development of our Environmental Centre and our activism in the local community. Each module contains both theory and practice: Studies, workshops and investigations and practical elements, where you learn by building up our Environmental Centre and by participating in local actions together with other activists.
We will build up a working relationship with local organisations and projects. There are many, though on a smaller scale! Initially, we will aim to help make them bigger, and longer term we wish to start our own community projects. Friends of the Earth, the Transition Movement and Greenpeace all have departments in Hull. An organisation called Permaculture Hull is active in many respects. There are at least 4 community gardens in Hull, and though they are small in size, they are big in importance. We are also in contact with a group that are working to turn a disused cemetery into a green area for people to enjoy in the middle of Hull.
For this team, the practical focus will be in the UK - but we will also get inspired by larger scale projects internationally. Some of our former students are in the process of establishing a large-scale Environmental Centre in Hungary and would appreciate a working visit from CICD, and on a recent study trip to Morocco, our team visited a tree planting project in the desert. These are just 2 examples among many things that are going on.
